Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th February 2025 Outline

Numbers 16:36-40 and note God’s instruction concerning the censers of the men who died and why. They were to hammer them into thin sheets to cover the altar as a memorial to future Israel and a warning that only descendants of Aaron were permitted to burn incense before God. Anyone else trying it would end up like Korah and his gang (compare 2 Chronicles 26:16-19).

After the death of 250 rebels with Korah, Dathan Abiram, and their families, the people continued to grumble and murmur against Moses and Aaron accusing them of killing “the people of the Lord” (Numbers 16:41). How just was such an accusation? Do people learn from examples in history? Is the sin of grumbling a major sin? Centuries later, Paul referred to this incident to warn the Corinthians against grumbling (1 Corinthians 10:10).

Moses and Aaron appeared never to be tired of interceding for the people. Take a look at Aaron performing his priestly role in Numbers 16:47-50. How is he a type of Christ? Unfortunately, before he and Moses could intervene, the Israelite community had lost almost fifteen thousand people. Sin destroys!
